2008 GEF Scholarship Application

Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student at any one of the GEF-funded colleges or universities listed ion this Web site. This includes enrollment at either a GEF-designated Gravure Resource Center or Educational Partner Program.

Applicant must be a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student at the time the scholarship is awarded. A declared major in Printing, Graphic Arts, or Graphic Communications must be demonstrated.

Applicant must exhibit scholarly performance and demonstrate academic success in his or her studies. A GPA of 3.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale) is required.

DEADLINE: All scholarship applications must be submitted by U.S. Mail. Faxed and e-mailed applications will not be accepted. All applications must be received by
May 31, 2008.

GEF Resouce Center Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded annually to students enrolled full-time at one of the designated GEF Learning Resource Centers: Arizona State University, California Polytechnic State University, Clemson University, Murray State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin-Stout, and Western Michigan University. Award selection is made by faculty at the designated colleges and universities.

Corporate Leadership Scholarships

Six Corporate Leadership Scholarships will be awarded for the 2006-2007 academic year in the amount of $1,500 each. These scholarships are made available through the generous support of the following companies:

GPC

The Gravure Publishing Council Scholarship

The Gravure Publishing Council (GPC) is an organization headed by end-users of gravure printing.Gravure Publishing Council Scholarship was established to promote and advance gravure as the preferred printing method for high-quality catalogs, inserts, supplements, and other direct marketing materials and to assist young people to enter the industry.

Hallmark Graphic Arts Scholarship

Hallmark Cards, Inc. is the world's leader in the personal expression industry. In support of education and the gravure industry, Hallmark Cards, Inc. provides a $1500 scholarship to a student who demonstrates leadership development efforts through clubs, associations, sports, community or volunteer activities. Applicants must be enrolled on a full-time basis at one of the GEF designated learning resource centers, must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, and must be a junior or senior.

Toyo InkToyo Ink International Scholarship

Located in New York, Toyo Ink International Corp. (www.toyoink.com) is the regional headquarters for the Americas operations of parent Toyo Ink Manufacturing Co., Ltd. of Japan.  The Toyo Ink Group is the world’s fourth largest manufacturer of high-quality inks for packaging and commercial printing applications, and a major provider of color and media materials, and polymer chemicals to the global marketplace.  Established in 1907, Toyo Ink now employs approximately 7,000 employees in 17 countries around the world. In support of education and the gravure industry, Toyo Ink provides a $1500 scholarship to a student who demonstrates leadership and academic accomplishments.  Applicants must be enrolled on a full-time basis at one of the GEF designated learning resource centers. Applicant must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and must be a junior or senior.

 

Werner B. Thiele Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Werner "Dutch" B. Thiele, founder of Thiele-Engdahl, Inc., this scholarship commemorates two of his life-long goals: to promote gravure as a print process for high quality packaging, and to encourage and assist young people as they enter the industry. Two scholarships in the amount of $1,250 each are awarded annually to students enrolled on a full-time basis at one of the GEF designated Learning Resource Centers: Arizona State University, California Polytechnic State University, Clemson University, Murray State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin-Stout, and Western Michigan University. Applicant must be at least a junior in college at the time of the award with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Leon C. Hart Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Leon C. Hart, who led the Gravure Education Foundation as Executive Director from 1994-2000. This scholarship is provided to a student who emulates the qualities of Leon C. Hart - a strong supporter of education, the gravure industry, and an active community member. One scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a student enrolled on a full-time basis at one of the GEF-designated Learning Resource Centers: Arizona State University, California Polytechnic State University, Clemson University, Murray State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin-Stout, and Western Michigan University. Applicant must demonstrate extra-curricular involvement in school activities or community involvement, demonstrate financial need, and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
