Evaluation of New ICC Proffiles: ECI Process Standards for Gravure
By Adam Rasmusson
An ICC profile was created for a Cerutti four-color web-fed gravure press and was compared against the theoretical device PSRgravure developed by the ECI. The Cerutti ICC profile was created from an IT8.7/3 test chart printed from laser-engraved cylinders (a first for this press) without ink optimization. The process gravure profiles were obtained from the ECI Web site.
The devices’ color gamuts were compared quantitatively using ICC profiles and the available measurement data. They were also compared qualitatively, using sample images and Adobe Photoshop to observe any visible traits from the application of the profiles. It was shown that even with the slightest of differences in color gamut between the two devices, those differences could have an impact on the printed image.
